This is a project I started back in college during Spring 2009. We had to create a whistle in Solid Works in order to make an STL file and then create a model with rapid prototyping. I saw a nice opportunity to make something stupid and never even suspected I would make it look like this at the end.

So after the whistle was manufactured by rapid prototyping (FDM process), I had to improve the surface quality. Since FDM makes very rough and bumpy surfaces (like you can see in the hole in the last image), I spent hours with putty and fine-grit sand paper to get a more acceptable smoothness.

Once the surfaces properly prepared, I applied automotive primer and paint (Acrythane PMS 123C). I then painted the details of the smiley with a fine paintbrush and acrylic paint then finally applied a couple of layers of glossy clear.

Anyway thanks for reading, and stay AWESOME!! :iconimhappyplz:
